Eligibility Criteria

To maintain the quality of applications for admission to the MD Program and ensure compliance with all the statutory requirements, the University has prescribed eligibility criteria.

ADMISSIONS

Bridgetown International University School of Medicine accepts students on a rolling basis, with semesters starting in January, May and September. A holistic assessment of candidates based on student academic performance, maturity, intelligence and drive are some of the elements considered for admission. The University does not discriminate based on race, color, age, national origin, gender, religion, or disability. It is the policy and practice of the University to comply with the disability laws as appropriate and practical in Barbados.

Applicants to any of the programs must fill out an application form. Official transcripts, two letters of recommendation and a personal statement that summarizes interest in medicine, career goals and personal attributes must be submitted. Applicants who meet the selection criteria for admission will be scheduled for an interview. Students who have completed their Pre-Med Associates Degree at BIU will have an abbreviated application and will be given instructions by the Admissions Committee. The decision of the Admissions Committee is communicated in writing to the applicant via an acceptance letter.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE PREMED PROGRAM

Students who have not completed the required pre-requisites and with no college credits will be admitted to the Pre-Med Associates Degree Program that covers four semesters. Applicants must be 18 years of age in the year of admission and must have completed their Higher secondary school/ Intermediate (10+2) with passing scores in physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) preferably with a score of 117 or better for applicants in India will be part of the criteria for selection. Applicants must show proof of English proficiency.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE MD PROGRAM

Students wishing to join the MD program must have completed a Bachelors Degree or Pre-Med Program with and over-all GPA of 3.0. Completion of core pre-requisites consists of at least two biology courses, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, college mathematics and english is required. Proof of MCAT/ NEET score is needed within two years of application. Applicants of non-English speaking countries may be asked to submit documentation of proficiency in English such as TOEFL or IELTS. Additional course work in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, behavioral sciences and other courses that provide a broad background in humanities as part of the pre-medical preparation can enhance the strength of the applicant. Work history, community service and professional or volunteer experiences provide evidence of the student’s motivation.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR TRANSFER APPLICANTS

Students previously enrolled in a WHO recognized, IMED-listed medical school may apply for admission with advanced standing, provided they meet all the requirements for admission to the School of Medicine. Transfer credit is not automatic and applicants must not assume that courses taken at other institutions will meet the university requirements. The level of placement in the curriculum will be determined by the Admissions Committee in consultation with the Promotions Committee after an evaluation of the official transcript. The university will not admit transfer applicants who have been dismissed from a medical school. Transfer applicants in their final clinical year will also not be admitted.

NATIONAL AND REGIONAL APPLICANTS

The University shall provide special considerations for admissions and retention of qualified candidates from Barbados and the Caribbean. A tuition incentive in the form of a discount will be awarded to deserving national and regional applicants.

  • One Time Admission fee of $5000 will be charged initially.
  • Accomdation and Food is optional and can be Provided during Premedical and Basic science $ 400/Month
  • Other Fee ( Study material, technoloy, Insurance etc) will be $500 to 1000/year
